Great Beverages from Around the World and Down the Street 57 S I P N O R T H W E S T C O M Beer Buffs Choice Rob Landerman Cicerone and Owner of Woodland Empire Ale Craft Boise ID The Northwest was calling for beer afi cionado and Texas native Rob Landerman when he left his position as head brewer of Ranger Creek Brewing in Austin and relocated to Boise to open Woodland Empire Ale Craft with his wife Keely in 2012 Since then Landerman has created many a lauded beer ranging from an apricot saison Warmth of the Sun to a wickedly strong barleywine Chapter Two Outside of his own beers Landerman has been glued to The Broken Truck a gueuze from de Garde Brewing in Tillamook Oregon This is an amazing gueuze and probably one of the best American sour beers Ive ever had Landerman proclaims A far cry from the Shiner Bock typically consumed in the Lone Star State the Belgian style wild ale is an intricate offering from the celebrated seaside brewery This beer is incredibly complex with a perfect amount of Brett funk lemon spice a soft malt backbone wet hay and a delightful earthiness he says Easily the most solid example of a true Belgian style made stateside
