STIR TASTE SWIZZLE Deep Cove Rosemary SHAKE and Olive Gin Once in a while a new spirit really surprises me Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers from North Vancouver does just that with their Rosemary and Olive gin Its amazingly aromatic without being overwhelming Perfect to mix into a Tuscan inspired cocktail or even a twist on a Bloody Mary The Bitter Sweet Bella cocktail takes advantage of this savory gin and combines exquisitely with a house made bitter lemon elixir made from whole lemons peel and all This unique and refreshing cocktail is perfect to serve as a sip with your favorite app MAKE BITTER SWEET BELLA MAKES 1 cocktail INGREDIENTS 1 ounces Deep Cove Rosemary and Olive gin 1 ounce Bitter Sweet Lemon Elixir recipe follows 2 ounces chilled soda or sparkling water GARNISH Lemon twist and rosemary sprig Measure the gin and elixir into a cocktail shaker Fill with ice cap and shake Pour cocktail into a tall glass top with soda and stir Garnish with a lemon twist and sprig of rosemary BITTER SWEET LEMON ELIXIR MAKES 2 cups 20 ounces INGREDIENTS 4 Meyer lemons 1 cups sugar 2 cups water Wash lemons cut the ends off and discard Slice each lemon in half lengthwise and each half into 4 slices Combine lemons sugar and water in a blender Blend until almost smooth but the mixture should still have some texture Place the mixture in a medium pan and bring to a boil over medium high heat Boil for 1 minute then remove from heat and let steep for 1 hour Strain through a fine strainer Store refrigerated for up to 2 weeks PHOTOS BY KATHY CASEY LIQUID KITCHEN 26 SIPNORTHWEST COM
