OREGON SPIRIT DISTILLERS serves up samples of their whiskey vodka genever spiced rum and absinthe created at the distillery located in a warehouse strip just northeast of downtown Bend Owner and distiller Brad Irwin established Oregon Spirit Distillers in 2010 and also offers quarterly releases of distillers choice spirits such as blueberry eau de vie and straight bourbon The HIGH DESERT MUSEUM located off Highway 97 about 10 minutes south of downtown offers an opportunity to get up close with some of the wildlife indigenous to the region Inside the museum permanent and temporary exhibits explore everything from high desert reptiles to craft beer A new exhibit in 2015 will explore the history ingredients and craft of beer making Most visitors come for the opportunity to learn more about snakes spiders tortoises and lizards And year round permanent exhibits offer the opportunity to explore pioneer life and the history of the regions native tribes Outside you can visit birds of prey a recreated sawmill porcupines and the ever popular river otters that swim and run throughout their exhibit mesmerizing young and old visitors alike 3 1 SIPNORTHWEST COM WILDLIFE AND WHISKEY Hoffman an Oregon native and avid fisherman Hinged on local ingredients Hoffmans menu for the Grill changes with the seasons ranging from crab cakes and Wagyu beef sirloin carpaccio to a burger built on half a pound of Oregon free range beef and a citrus brined huckleberry glazed pork chop all set to the scene of the Cascade peaks In The Row a Scottish inspired saloon a different local brewery is profiled and paired with monthly alongside 12 beer taps and more than 30 bottled and canned beers On a quiet morning before golfers had taken to the links we sipped coffee from nearby Sisters Coffee Company provided with the coffee maker in our room at Tetherow sat on the terrace and watched as a red tailed hawk patiently stalked prey We could relax while we enjoyed the morning plotting our days ahead knowing that most everything we wanted to do in Bend was no more than 10 minutes away PHOTOS COURTESY OF TETHEROW RESORT
